March 30, 2003 This letter was sent to the Wesleyan Christian Advocate in Atlanta, GA.
I am very much taken with the Episcopalian mode of prayer. In the case of war they pray for all participants, and then add: and especially for those of our own community whom we treasure so much. Like we pray for all people who are sick, and especially for those who are so dear to us.
In this way we avoid a close identification with nationalism and stand out as Christians being concerned for all people, including our enemies.
Best regards,
Yours in Christ!
