Following is a brief letter concerning the homosexual "marriage" issue by the Christian sector. It purports to present a solution to this problem which subsumes the homosexual question under a larger question of church blessing for communistic organizations which are based on the examples of Jesus and the early church. I hope you will find it worthy of publication. The letter now follows:
The solution to the homosexual predicament among Christians is amazingly simple. First of all the Christians must proclaim the sense of the gospel to be most perfectly reflected in the first church at Jerusalem, clearly a commune like a marriage and a natural extension of the relationship of Jesus and his band of friends, e.g., giving without counting. Hence the Christian church is to bless any group which seeks honestly to reflect the spirit of that band. Secondly since sexual contact is not required by the faith (Paul even recommends abstinence in marriage, at least to the extent it is helpful*) sexual relations are not presupposed for any Christian union whatsoever, be it a marriage (of a man and woman) or a monastery (of two or more men or women). For example members of a monastery, like members of a marriage, would commit themselves to treating all people according to the Golden Rule and each other according to the Friends Rule (John 15:13). And so therefore, since there is no need for a question of sexual conduct to arise, any church member can bless such unions even if he might otherwise have qualms about homosexual relationships.
