I am appalled at how many of the Christian fundamentalists are openly skeptical of the clear pronouncements of the Bible. In the very first chapter of that divine and inerrant book we find it clearly stated that the sky is a metallic dome which covers the earth and protects us from the waters which are held in check above that dome (much like the ceiling in the Fox Theater).
King James translated it most accurately when he called it a “firmament.” But these truly “weak in faith” Christians take recourse in “common sense” and “human reason” (read: secular humanism) and declare such passages to be merely figures of speech and not seriously intended.
This absurdity is dreamed up to reconcile the clear truth of the Bible with the assertions of science that space is infinite and that the sky is merely air which looks blue due to the spectral effects of sunlight.
